January 2022
Hello, Support Team, Happy New Year!
Fighting human trafficking in Alaska is the first domestic project for Love Justice International (LJI). This journey started in 2019 before I even knew about the organization; groundwork was being made. The protocol to fight Transit Monitoring was fine-tuned in countries such as Nepal and India but the legal ease and politics of America have yet to be navigated. The success of our project depends heavily on the support of many other partnerships and organizations. LJI worked with the Airport Police to define project parameters in a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU). That MOU is now with the Governor’s office and the Alaska Department of Public Safety for review and approval. The reach of this project requires closer examination to ensure our efficacy and safety. We’re looking at options for other areas of impact and working diligently to build up our partnerships with the organizations needed to serve the vulnerable.
PROGRESS
I have a new home and a new gig to support the LJI Transit Monitoring Project!
While the State navigates our MOU I’ll also be working short-term in a non-permanent position as a Criminal Justice Technician working in the Sex Offender Registration Office. I’ll report to Jim Cockrell, Governor Dunleavy’s Commissioner of Public Safety. This position will build up our relationship with the Departments of Safety and Transportation while simultaneously educating me in agency protocols.
What happens after a potential victim is intercepted? We work with our partners to make sure they have the resources and relationships they need to be safe and successful. With that goal in mind, we’re working closely with PRICELESS - walking with victims to find new life while meeting practical needs. I'm "on staff" with this team.
This is a photo of some of the Priceless staff wearing blue on January 11th to raise awareness for human trafficking. This team is supporting us with every resource and relationship they have to help this project be successful. Priceless offers mentorships, connections to housing, training for engagement with the vulnerable, case management, and a number of other resources.
Hope Center provides shelter services, culinary & bakery job skills training, daily meals, laundry, and clothing handouts. Suite Hope is an adjacent apartment building purchased by Hope Center to offer safe, subsidized housing to women needing trauma care and treatment for abuse or addiction and to victims of human trafficking. I’ll be the new Property Manager for this building which will put us smack-dab in the middle of the community we’re serving! The women's shelter is on the same grounds and I'll get to pull up a chair and love on people. This will afford me the opportunity to gain true insight into the lives of these victims while gathering the data necessary to act on the injustices affecting them.
INSPIRED BY THE LOVE OF JESUS, WE OFFER THOSE IN NEED SUPPORT, SHELTER, SUSTENANCE, AND SKILLS TO TRANSFORM THEIR LIVES
We may not be able to transit monitor at the airport today but we’ll certainly be able to intercept potential victims from the streets of downtown Anchorage, right out my front door!
Thank you for your ongoing support and stay well!
